1. Automated PSL Compliance
Background: Paid Sick Leave (PSL) compliance requirements vary by jurisdiction and can be complex to manage manually. Clients currently configure PSL accrual settings themselves, which requires staying up to date with jurisdiction-specific rules and risks non-compliance if incorrect values are entered.
What’s New?
Clients can now contact Support to select between two PSL compliance modes:
- Manual — Continues existing functionality, allowing clients to input their own values for PSL accruals with no restrictions.
- Automated — Accrual settings are grayed out and Greenshades populates the values automatically, using the highest employee count for each jurisdiction to ensure the client remains within compliance.
Please note the following when using Automated PSL Compliance:
- New jurisdictions will not automatically populate to existing PSL Time Off codes.
- Clients will need to manually add any new jurisdictions to their PSL Time Off codes as they arise.
- Greenshades rates are based on the highest employee count for that jurisdiction.
2. Updated Combined ACH Workflow
Background: The Combined ACH workflow is used by clients to batch and distribute payroll transactions via ACH files. The existing workflow lacked clear separation between batching and approval steps and did not provide sufficient safeguards around downloading or rejecting previously processed batches, creating risk of errors and duplicate processing.
What’s New?
Updates to the Combined ACH workflow are releasing soon with the following highlights:
- A new two-step process separates batching from approval and download, providing clearer control over each stage.
- Clients can approve or reject ACH file batches; rejected batches are returned to the batching step for correction.
- Warnings are displayed when downloading or rejecting previously downloaded batches to prevent accidental duplicate processing.
- The new workflow will replace the current workflow in the future but is available now. Contact Support to request early access.

3. Void Enhancements
Background: Several improvements have been made to the void and reissue process to address rounding inconsistencies, limited workflow options, and confusion around which void method to use.
What’s New?
Reissue Totals Copied from Original Check
Reissued checks were previously generated as a separate pay run and calculation, which caused rounding discrepancies between the original and reissued checks. The process has been updated so that reissued checks copy the totals directly from the original check, eliminating the recalculation step and ensuring the amounts match exactly.
Reverse and Reissue
Previously, the only way to reissue a check was to remove it, which did not suit all client needs. Staffing clients in particular preferred the Reversal method. The reissue process has now been expanded to include a Reverse and Reissue option, combining the benefits of both approaches in a single workflow.
Updated Void Workflow
To reduce confusion around the many available void options, the process has been streamlined into a guided workflow:
- First, clients are asked whether the employee needs to repay the funds they received.
- If repayment is required, the next step is to reverse the check with arrears.
- If repayment is not required, clients can choose to either Reverse or Remove the check — both options allow reissuing the original check.
- Note: Reversing a check through this workflow does not create arrears.
4. Pay Run Completion Enhancements
Background: Clients encountered two issues during pay run completion: a confusing experience when the Complete button was unavailable due to another pay run processing, and an intermittent issue where concurrent calculation processes interfered with pay history generation.
What’s New?
Gray Out Complete Button
When a pay run is completing and post pay run tasks are running, attempting to complete another pay run simultaneously would previously result in an error message with no indication of when to retry. The Complete button is now grayed out during this period. Hovering over the button displays a popup identifying which administrator submitted the currently processing pay run, allowing team members to coordinate directly on its status. Once those tasks are complete the button to complete the pay run will be selectable.
Prevent Calculations Started After Payroll Completion
An intermittent issue allowed payroll calculations to run concurrently with the completion process, which prevented the pay history process from starting as expected. The system has been updated to block any new payroll calculations from starting once the completion process has begun, ensuring a clean and reliable completion flow.
