Background

Form 8655, known as the Reporting Agent Authorization, is a vital piece of documentation that allows Greenshades to perform various functions on your behalf; we need it for when you authorize returns and payments to be submitted by your Tax Service representative.

The IRS defines these actions as authorized once you submit your Form 8655:

  • Sign and file certain returns
  • Make deposits and payments for certain returns
  • Receive duplicate copies of tax information, notices, and other written and/or electronic communication regarding any authority granted
  • Provide IRS with information to aid in penalty relief determinations related to the authority granted on Form 8655

Upload process

Once you have filled out your form and either faxed or mailed it to the IRS, we need you to upload it in Greenshades Online. Should the IRS ask us for proof of authorization, your Tax Service representative can access the uploaded copy.

To do so, navigate to Settings > Tax Service > Form 8655. This screen outlines instructions for filling out your form, as well as providing a means to upload the form.

Ensure that you have completed the form and turned it in to the IRS, and scan it to your computer so you have a digital copy. To upload your Form 8655, select Browse and locate the scanned form. Then use Upload to complete the process. You should see a Success! Upload Complete message. If you do not, or receive an error message, reach out to your Tax Service representative for assistance.

This screen also shows you a log of when your form was last uploaded, by whom, and the name of the file. If at any time you need to replace the form, you may do so using the same process as explained above; the newly-uploaded form will overwrite the old one.
