The Local Mapping screen is how you tell the Greenshades system what your local codes relate to within your accounting package. Once you have mapped all of your active codes in our system, the relevant tracking screens appear for you. There, you will set up to file and pay your local taxes.

Setup

The Local Mapping page can be accessed through Settings > Tax Service > Local Mapping.

To begin, select Edit next to the local name you'd like to map. This opens a window with options that we will discuss below.

This window opens once you select Edit on a local. First, choose the state. This action loads relevant options for "Type," which will depend on the state, and are typically city, county, or school district. Pennsylvania will have more options related to LSTs and EITs. (Local Service Tax & Earned Income Tax)

After selecting the Type, the Name dropdown list populates. Select the name of the locality to map. Once you select the name of the locality, the mapping process for this local is complete. Proceed to the tracking options to enable the jurisdiction.

At the bottom of the Local Mapping page you will see two options:

  • This company files local Pennsylvania taxes on a combined, monthly basis" - Selecting this option will combine your PA locals into a single return to be reported monthly, rather than multiple returns for each jurisdiction. Leave this unchecked if you prefer to report by jurisdiction. Note: You must register with the state of Pennsylvania to report on a combined basis.
  • Default my employees that live in PA but work out of PA to a work location of my PA Headquarters - This option will default employee work locations to the PA Headquarters you have set up in Settings > Company Addresses > Company Locations. You will still be able to change employee work locations as needed on their employee cards within Greenshades Online.
